In the French language inside blinds are called "la jalousie" which refers to the window grates of royal harems. At the beginning of the 19th century inside blinds which rotatable slats were used to regulate the exposure to light. Therefore, the term "la jalousie" can be used as an umbrella term for all kinds of sun protection facilities for windows and doors which work with rotatable slats.
