Door leaf

The term door leaf refers to the moving part of a door, equivalent to the sash on a window. Today the door leaf is attached to the door frame casing (the door frame) by means of door hinges, also known as pivot hinges. The difference from a simple hinge, which permits the same movement, is that the door leaf can be lifted off without having to dismantle the hinge. On the side opposite the door hinges, the door leaf is normally fitted with a door handle or knob and a locking device such as a lock or bolt.
